Rachel Rosasco shot a 46 at Phoenix Lake Golf Course on Tuesday to lead the Sonora Wildcats golf team to a 265-318 victory on Tuesday over the Sierra Timberwolves.
Rosasco earn medalist honors for the low score of the match, which was the Valley Oak League opener for both teams.
“I was very happy with the way we played,” said Wildcat head coach Mike White. “Rachel shot a 43 a couple of days ago in a scrimmage and then to back that up with a 46 and keep her composure while the girls around her were putting up big numbers, was fantastic.”
Also for Sonora (1-0 VOL), Emma Holloway carded a 52, Sienna Lampi and Tallon Popovich each shot 55 and Abby Castleberry shot a 57.
“Emma was phenomenal for us with that 52,” said White. “265 is a great score for us, but I expect us to be in the 250s later in the year.”
The Wildcats will next host Manteca on Thursday before battling VOL heavyweights East Union and Oakdale next week.
“East Union is always tough and this year will be no different,” said White. “And Oakdale has a freshman that shoots in the 30s. So the VOL should be interesting this year.”
