Sonora falls on road against Lathrop |
The Sonora Wildcat boys hoopsters were defeated 52-44 on Friday night by its host, the Lathrop Spartans. The Wildcats could hardly buy a field goal from the floor, shooting just 27 percent for the game, including 2 for 13 from beyond the 3-point line. The Spartans, who were celebrating their homecoming, out-rebounded the Wildcats 35-29. Lathrop led 11-9 after the first quarter, 21-15 at halftime and 35-26 heading into the final period. Ben Bates led the Wildcats on offense with 18 points, including a 3-pointer. Also for Sonora (7-17, 3-8 Valley Oak League), Will Collamer scored 10 points and Nick Mays and Josh Thacker each scored six points. Lathrop (7-15, 3-8 VOL) was led by Robert Orantes who scored a game-high 20 points. Sonora next will play at Kimball on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. JV—The Wildcats won 41-34. Kahale Warring recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Also for first-place Sonora (10-1), Thomas Nelson scored seven and grabbed seven boards and Brandon Pierce scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers. |
