Softball Cats blanked by Oakdale in finale

OAKDALE — Sonora High School's softball season ended meekly as the Wildcats were shut out by Oakdale, 2-0, yesterday.

"I was kind of hoping to beat Oakdale so we could finish ahead of them, but I think our girls left about a week ago," Sonora coach Nick Parry said.

The Wildcats finished 6-17 overall, including 4-8 in the Valley Oak League, while Oakdale would up 14-13 and 5-7. Sonora tied Manteca (10-15, 4-8) for sixth place in the seventh-team league.

Nikky Risetto pitched a four-hitter for Oakdale, striking out seven. She also got two of the Mustangs's five hits, including a single as they scored both their runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Sonora's hits were singles by Katie Begier, Rachel Wolfe, Vanessa Clark, and Hannah Jacobs.

East Union of Manteca (22-3-1, 11-1) and Los Banos (17-5-1, 11-1) tied for the VOL championship.
