Bret Harte High School did all its scoring in the first half and posted a 3-0 victory over Ripon Christian in the 2002 boys' soccer opener Thursday night at Dorroh Field in Angels Camp.
The Bullfrogs struck six minutes into the game when Mario Rojas found the back of the net from 10 yards away, and they made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when Rojas tallied again on a header off a crossing pass from Billy Christian.
Aaron Elevi finished the scoring with a rocket of a shot to which the Ripon Christian goalkeeper barely had time to react.
That was more than enough offense for Bret Harte.
"The defense was very stingy all night long," Bullfrogs coach Harry Williams said.
Goalie Brandon Williams preserved the shutout by stopping a penalty kick, and the Bullfrogs also got solid performances from midfielders Neil Taylor and John Aitken.
"This was a good test for the boys, and we were able to notch the win while using 26 different players," Williams said.
Bret Harte is home again Tuesday to play Central Catholic of Modesto at 5 p.m. Only the varsity teams will play.
