The Bears capped back-to-back doubleheaders by splitting a twinbill with Bret Harte yesterday in Angels Camp, leaving Summerville with three wins in four games over two days.
After sweeping Amador in Sutter Creek 7-0 and 13-1 on Monday, Summerville (6-16, 4-10 Mother Lode League) topped Bret Harte 4-2 in Game 1 before dropping a 2-0 decision in Game 2.
In Game 1, the Bears scratched out a run in the top of the second inning when Courtney Buljan reached on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Andrea Laney.
In the seventh, Summerville loaded the bases when Kelsey Wingo and Dawn Wilk sandwiched walks around a Melissa Wise single. Jessica Aubrey then drove in Wingo with a run-scoring single, with Wise also scoring when the ball squirted away on the play at the plate. Wilk then scored the Bears' third run of the inning on a passed ball.
The Frogs made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh when they scored two and had the tying run on base before Aubrey (seven innings pitched, one earned run) slammed the door on their rally.
Between games, Bret Harte treated Summerville to free tri-tip dinners while conducting a fundraiser for the softball program.
"That was really nice of them," Summerville coach Ben Watson said. "I was really impressed with their hospitality and generosity."
The Frogs took advantage of a gorged Summerville squad by blanking the Bears 2-0 in Game 2, ending the Bears' season-high three-game winning streak.
Christina Pierazzi picked up the complete-game win, pitching around Summerville rallies in the second, fourth and seventh innings.
Aubrey picked up the loss after pitching her fourth game in two days.
Summerville hosts Amador tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Standard Park in the season finale. Aubrey shackled Amador in both games Monday, pitching a pair of two-hitters. She struck out six and walked two in the seven-inning opener, then fanned five and walked none in the five-inning nightcap.
