SILVA LEADS CATS GOLFERS AT INVITATIONAL

The Sonora High School boys' golf team mustered a sixth-place finish at the two-day, 15-team Carson City (Nev.) Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday.

Andrew Silva paced the Wildcats with rounds of 73 and 77, good enough for sixth place, four strokes behind the top finisher.

Also earning top-15 finishes for Sonora were Loren Ksiazek (74, 82) and Darr Snedeger (76, 81).

"That's the first back-to-back days of 18 holes we've played," Sonora coach Steve Lee said. "It was nice to get a little vacation tournament in, but the conditions were kind of tough."

The Cats had to contend with ice and rain on the back nine on Wednesday, followed by 20-30 mph gusts of wind on Thursday.

Rounding out the Wildcats' scoring wre Brandon Schweitz (81, 84), Kyle Richards (94, 92) and Scott Clifford (92, 94).

Carson (Nev.) High School's No. 1 team won the tournament with a two-day score of 762 strokes. The Wildcats finished with 814 team strokes.

Sonora is off again until Monday, April 28 when the Cats visit Pheasant Run in Chowchilla for the Valley Oak League championships.
