The Calaveras Redskin volleyball team clinched the Mother Lode League championship on Thursday with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-5, 25-15) drubbing of Argonaut at Mike Flock Gym.
Redskin head coach Kristy Dwyer won her second straight MLL title and third in four years — with two different teams.
Dwyer guided the Summerville Bears to two championships in the last three years and moved to Calaveras this season and her Redskins captured the crown.
Dwyer praised her Redskins, while downplaying her role.
“It was a great night for the seniors as it was their last home league match,” Dwyer said. “The girls have been great all year and I am so proud of them. I have always felt that each victory is a team effort no matter if you played or not. Each girl played tonight and had a role in the victory as well as the championship. They worked hard all season and they deserve this championship. They are the reason we won the title.”
The champion Skins are: seniors Rebecca Conley, Kelly Airola, Haley Gonsalvez, Angelica Delarosa, Shianna White, Samantha Baseman, juniors Dakota Butzler, Julia DeHerrera, Kylie Delaney, Lisa Valtierra and sophomore Pookie Deckman.
The Redskins (12-2 MLL) next will visit rival Bret Harte (7-7 MLL) on Tueday at 6 p.m.
