Casteel, Sonora beat Calaveras

Sonora pitcher Tyler Casteel took the mound Thursday night at Bev Barron Field and shut down Calaveras with a brilliant pitching performance, leading the Wildcats to an 8-1 victory over the Redskins.
Calaveras managed just two hits off of the senior hurler, and with a combination of a fastball and a killer curveball, Casteel stifled the Redskins.

Bullfrogs stop Bears undefeated baseball roll

Bret Harte became the first Mother Lode League baseball team to outlast Summerville. A lot of teams have enjoyed the lead against the Bears this season, but the Bullfrogs were the first to enjoy the lead after the final out.

Taylor, Kurgan earn firsts at Coalinga shoot

Columbia resident Robert Taylor II, won Saturday’s State Championship and Chad Kurgan, of Murphys, won the Civilian Marksmanship match on Sunday at the California State Service Rifle Championship and California State Trophy Individual Championship and CMP Leg Match in Coalinga.

Wildcat netters hand Amador first loss in 2 years

The Sonora coed tennis erupted in cheers on Wednesday following Leah Dambacher’s volley kill at the net to help the Wildcats earn the fifth, and deciding, point against the Amador Buffaloes at Columbia College.

Bears edge Argonaut in 9 innings

The Summerville Bears boys’ baseball team kept their perfect Mother Lode League record intact with a 5-4 extra inning victory over Argonaut, Wednesday in Jackson. 

Wildcat golfers beat Redskins to stay perfect in MLL

The Sonora boys’ golf team had a strong outing Wednesday at the La Contenta golf course in Valley Springs, beating the Calaveras Redskins 213-222.

Nugget shooters on target at CYSSA event

The second competition of the 2015 California Youth Shooting Sports Association season took place Saturday at the Los Banos Sportsmen’s Club. 

Clubs from the Mother Lode Gun Club, Sonora High School and Summerville High School made the trip to the valley to compete.

Washed away

 Winter made a comeback Tuesday and washed away the entire slate of high school contests. Sonora tennis was rescheduled to today and will host the Mother Lode League leading Amador Buffaloes at 3:30 p.m. at Columbia College. The MLL-leading Wildcats golf will also today visit the defending league champion Calaveras Redskins at 3:30 p.m. at La Contenta in Valley Springs.

3 ’Cats, 1 Redskin are Lions All-Stars

Three Sonora Wildcats and one Calaveras Redskin will represent their teams this summer in the prestigious 42nd annual Lions All-Star Football Game at Tracy High School.

Wildcats Serge Kiriluk, Zerek Saldivar and Kahale Warring and Redskin Connor Hamilton were named to the North squad Monday in a press release.

The Dodge Ridge Race Team will be recognized today by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors for claiming its fifth straight United States Ski and Snowboard Association Far West Central Series Silver Cup despite challenging conditions, namely the lack of snow. The board is likely to approve certificates of recognition to the team and individually to Varun Suklikar, Evan Lear and Stash Perry for first-place wins in their age group. Dodge Ridge skiers compete against teams from Bear Valley, Badger Pass and China Peak.
