The Bret Harte and Sonora swim teams wrapped up their season last week in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at Tokay High School. 

Tioga senior Nelson-Haven stars at SL/MVL/CCAA meet

Tioga’s Brando Nelson-Haven was busy Friday at his league track meet at Merced College.
Nelson-Haven ran in the three most grueling events the meet has to offer, the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs and he also found time to compete in the high jump.

Summer leagues underway; Rossi rolls high series

Summer league bowling is underway.
Most have started but the four-man handicap leagues that were scheduled for two days per week had less than full registration, were condensed and will play on Tuesdays.

Cats vs Faculty

 The Sonora Wildcats varsity boys’ basketball team played the high school’s faculty Friday in a fundraising event for the hoops program at Bud Castle Gymnasium. Before the game a tri-tip dinner was served.

Summerville baseball beaten by Ripon

STOCKTON — The Mother Lode League champion Summerville Bears season came to an end Wednesday night, as they fell to 6-­5 to the Ripon Indians in the first round of the Sac­-Joaquin Section Division V Championships at Billy Hebert Field in Stockton.
A four­-run second inning by Ripon turned out to be more than the Bears could handle. For a team that made their season by late-game comebacks, Summerville didn’t have one left in its gas tank.

Sportfishing Stimulus Act progressing in Senate

The California State Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water amended and passed Senate Bill 345, the California Sportfishing Stimulus Act of 2015, May 5  by an 8 to 0 vote.

Longtime records fall at elementary school track meet

Columbia Elementary School has the two fastest eighth-grade sprinters in Tuolumne County in the last 40 years and beyond.
Three longtime records fell earlier this week at the Tuolumne County Elementary School Track Meet at Summerville High’s Thorsted Field and two were set by Columbia speedsters, including the longest standing mark in the event’s history.
