ANGELS CAMP Summerville High School senior Marc Pruitt returned from a week on the sideline and won Wednesday's Mother Lode League cross country race at Frogtown.
Pruitt, who missed last week's race in Sutter Creek, topped a field of 39 runners by covering the hilly, three-mile course on a hot, sunny day in 17 minutes, 34 seconds.
"He took a commanding lead on the hill section of the course," Summerville coach Wayne DeGennaro said.
Senior Bryce Spitze was sixth for Summerville in 18:54, sophomore Matt Welch 10th in 19:38, senior T.T. Geissler 12th in 19:51 and senior Travis Ford 13th in 19:56.
Host Bret Harte won the team race with 26 points to 38 for Summerville and 65 for Calaveras. A different school has won each of the three MLL races held so far. Summerville was first on Sept. 11 at the Orvis Ranch in a meet hosted by Linden, and Calaveras was first last week at Amador.
They'll mix it up again Saturday in the Frogtown Invitational and also next Wednesday in an MLL meet Summerville will host at Westside in Tuolumne.
Summerville was second to Bret Harte, 19-38, in the varsity girls' race at Frogtown. Sophomore Lauren Daniels ran seventh out of 30 in 23:27, freshman Jennifer Baker was ninth in 24:31, senior Courtney Welch finished 10th in 24:39, sophomore Rachel Young was 11th in 25:06 and senior Kellie Pierce ran 15th in 26:27.
Linden was third with 83 points.
