The Tuolumne County Outlaws semipro football team will open its regular season on Friday, March 30, at Dunlavy Field.
“This team has bonded fast,” said Outlaws lineman Austin Domser. “The strength of this team is that every man on it has a love and passion for the game.”
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Domser starts at nose guard and right guard.
Domser was a First-Team All-Area and First-Team All-Mother Lode League two-way starting lineman for Summerville (class of 2010).
Domser is joined on the Outlaws by fellow Bears Alex Olson and Trevor Monte (class of ‘10) and brother Tyler Domser (‘09).
In 2008, all four played when Summerville earned its first postseason bid in seven seasons. In 2009, Austin Domser, Olson and Monte were part of the Summerville squad which took the whole enchilada — the MLL championship with a perfect 5-0 record.
“With the four of us having success at high school together,” said Austin Domser, “all four of us have this collective hunger — we don’t want our Outlaws team to even think about second place. We’re hungry to win — all the time.”
This is Austin Domser’s first year on the Outlaws, the second for the franchise itself.
“We’re not the talk of the town now,” said Domser. “But the goal of our franchise is to get some support and show people that when they watch us they’ll be seeing a team that shows up and takes care of business.”
The Outlaws won their preseason contest 8-6 two weeks ago.
“What I really liked about our team,” said Domser, “is that there was this quiet confidence. The whole game was intense and we were trailing almost the entire time. But throughout the game, I never felt like we weren’t gonna win. Our team hit hard and never lost its intensity.”
The Outlaws scored the go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes to play.
In 2012, the Outlaws will play a 9-game schedule. The organization is looking for volunteers to help with announcing, security, clock, stats, and filming. Experienced coaches are also encouraged to apply for a position.
