The 25th Old Mill run will not take place the third Saturday in April in and around Columbia State Historic Park for lack of a guiding organization.
The Sonora Mountain Lions Club can no longer continue to organize, promote and stage the race, according to organizer Dan Ryan. Ryan also said no other organization could be found in time to take over the event, which comprised a 6.2-mile main event, a two-mile fun run and walk, a kids mile and a quarter-mile Mini Mill for tykes.
Plans are under way to bring the popular race back in 2003 under the direction of the Tuolumne County Recreation Department, Ryan said.
The approximately 100 volunteers who have provided the wonderful support and expertise will be contacted before next years date, Ryan said. It is hoped the 25 sponsors who provided necessary funding and donations so that the race could support Visiting Nurse Hospice will be part of the 2003 race.
In the meantime, the Eddie Zoma Running Club will continue its Saturday training runs on the Old Mill course.
