Masters swimmers speedy in Rinconada meet

ATHERTON — Tuolumne County Aquatic Masters swimmers posted some speedy times in the Rinconada Meet at Atherton High School.

Paul Jones, competing in the 25-29 age group, improved by more than seven seconds in the 200-yard freestyle (2:26.02) and by more than a second in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.82).

In the same age group, Toby Palmer swam a personal best in the 50 free (26.48) and had a two-second drop in the 100 backstroke (1:05.94).

Susan White, who specializes in distance races in the 60-64 divisions, swam a national qualifying time in the 1,000 free (17:27.35) — beating the national standard by more than a minute.

White also had a best in the 50 free (42.48).

Several masters currently are training for next month's Pacific Masters Championships in Santa Cruz, while others are shooting for the U.S. Masters Nationals later on in Tempe, Ariz., or the Senior Games in Virginia.

The masters train at Sonora Sport and Fitness Center. The program is open to all levels of swimmers.
