Lee narrowly misses real 300; Sanders No-taps it |
By RUTH ABREO For The Union Democrat Kevin Jones (Jokers Wild) had a working ball as he rolled a 267 which was 96 pins over his average. Another working ball this week belonged to Robert Porovich (Jokers Wild) as he rolled a 716. Holly Matranga’s ball was working for her as she bowled a 557 in Helakno Full House, while Arleen Williams was motivated by her team to roll a 215 in Young at Heart. One league is fast approaching the end of the summer season and that is Helakno Full House. There was a position round which ended in a very dramatic 10th frame-sudden death roll-off to see who would bowl against Head Hunters for the League Championship. The finishing team for the second half was Team No. 7 (Rich Robenseifner, Paul Henry, Walt Bales and Patrick Pillsbury) defeating Spare Us (Nancie Price, Rod Price, Vince Pryschuk and Craig Chiarpotti). Others who showed they also have a working ball included: Jeff Hurley (Diamond Duos) 661; in Summer Morning Rollers it’s Jeannie Philbin with 565; and in Helakno Full House, it’s John Rago with 684, Jim LeMaster with 256/652 and Amanda Klaahsen with 552. An omission in last week’s report failed to note the uncertified leagues which had Dylan Standers (Black Oak 9-Pin No-Tap League) bowling a no-tap 300 which included eight normal strikes and four no-taps. This week’s uncertified leagues have the following results: In the No-Tap league Norma Espino with 237, Kay Hunter with 665 for the women and, for the men, it’s Brandon Lee with 287 and Rod Hirtzel with 717. Over in Sonora Regional Medical Center it’s Jean Curto and Jennifer Mueller, 155, and Jane Gibler with 448. Feeling the frustration of bowling recently was Bobbie Sargent (Young at Heart) as she had six splits in one game. We can all empathize with her on that one. Knowing the highs of the game in the same league were four women — Janis Banchero, Barbara Morales, Barbara Shimonek and sub Lillian Thomas — whose averages totaled 553 as they bowled a 771 game.
