Junior baseball team in Section 6 semifinals |
SELMA Tuolumne County's District 15-champion Junior team for ages 13 and 14 is in the semifinals of the Little League baseball's Section 6 Tournament at Lowery Field. The team representing the Woods Creek, Westside, High Sierra and 49er associations beat Visalia (District 34) 14-3 Saturday and Arvin (District 61) 11-3 yesterday to stay alive after losing its opener 7-2 Friday to District 8 (Tracy). District 15 plays Los Banos (District 10) tonight at 6 for the right to play Tracy in the finals tomorrow at 4 p.m. and, if necessary, again at 7. Tonight's winner must beat Tracy twice to steal the title and advance to the Divisional level. Ryan Williston doubled and singled and Devin Goodman singled for the only hits by District 15 against Tracy. Willie Dutra pitched four innings and Ryles Richards and Goodman worked an inning apiece. Ryan Williston struck out nine against Visalia, which District 15 put away in five innings. He also singled twice, while Alex Stewart, Goodman and Josh Schultz each doubled and singled Also, Dutra and Spencer Stobaugh singled twice apiece and Richards, Kyle Dodge, Taylor Thrift and Jared Hart singled once each. District 15 did all its damage in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring seven runs in each frame. Against Arvin, Stewart pitched a seven-inning complete game with six strikeouts. He also singled and got plenty of support from Dutra, who blasted a solo home run; Stobaugh, Thrift and Goodman, who singled twice each; Williston, who singled; and Craig Cadalero, who scored as a pinch-runner. The District 15 infield, paced by second baseman Dodge and shortstop Williston, pulled off three double plays behind Stewart. |
