Jumpers fall in five to West Hills

The Columbia College volleyball team had its best shot yet at a Central Valley Conference victory, but West Hills of Coalinga escaped from Oak Pavilion with a 30-25, 20-30, 30-25, 13-30, 15-12.

The first game, in which Columbia couldn't hold a 9-1 lead, turned out to be crucial.

"We were just making errors," Columbia coach Raelene Juarez said. "It was just a combination of everything at the wrong time."

Columbia statistics:

Ace serves — Melissa Costa Valerie Foster and Brooke Sherry three apiece; Sarah Tait and Stacy Gordon two each; Jaime Dickerson one.

Kills — Tait nine, Costa and Foster six each, Dickerson five.

Blocks — Costa three, Tait two, Damm, Dickerson and Monica Schmidt one each.

Assists — Costa 16.

Digs — Dickerson 19, Costa 15, Foster 11, Tait 10, Gordon eight.

Columbia (2-4, 0-4 CVC) is idle Friday and then visits Reedley next Wednesday.
