Groveland karate trio wis medals

Allison Poore, Faith Rosenberger and Craig Johnson won medals for the California Karate Academy of Groveland in the AAU Pacific Karate Championships in Loomis, near Sacramento.

Rosenberger, and Poore, both

13-year-old green belts, won bronze medals in the Kumite division (sparring), while Johnson won two goals in the adult black-belt division in both Kata

(forms) and Kumite.

All advanced to the AAU National Qualifier Championships, which are next month in Grants Pass, Ore. There, they'll try to qualify for the AAU National Championships, which are in July in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Johnson, the academy's chief

instructor, opened the Groveland studio in 1995. He has been a student of Grand Master Jim Mather, primarily of the Bay Area, since 1965.
