Grid clash: Sonora vs. Escalon

Sonora’s Austin Davis (10, right), Walter Leyva (52, left) and Shawn Madruga (back) smother a Bear River ball carrier last week during the Wildcats’ 42-20 victory over Bear River at Dunlavy Field.
The Sonora Wildcat football team will face the Escalon Cougars on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section 2011-12 Championships.

The No. 8 seed Wildcats will try to take down the top seed in Division IV at Escalon High School at 7 p.m. The gates open at 5:30 p.m.
"Our kids are really excited to play Escalon,” said Wildcat head coach Bryan Craig. “They feel like they’ve got a good chance and I feel the same way. We’re playing good football right now and this is the right time, we’re healthy, and if it’s gonna happen, this might be the time.”
“We’ve been more serious and working hard at practice this week,” said senior co-captain Austin Davis. “They’re a very good team, but I feel we’re gonna do real well. I expect it to be hard-hitting for sure. This is a big game going against the defending champs.”
