Farris rolls just shy of 700-series

By RUTH ABREO

For The Union Democrat

Several bowling scores worth noting were rolled last week at Black Oak Lanes.

Chuck Farris in the Summer Morning Rollers league led the way with a 689 for the men’s high-series.

The honor of bowling the men’s high-game went to Dave Rossi (Summer Jokers Wild), who rolled a 254.

For the women, Marcia Crass (Summer High Rollers) had the high-game bowling a 212 and Joan Autler (Summer Morning Rollers) the high-series with 576.

There were no 700-series bowled.

Other notable scores included: Summer High Rollers — Darvis Lee 677 and Ralph Caspary 650.

Meanwhile, the “I can’t believe I beat myself” club gained some new members: Summer Morning Rollers — Chuck Farris 87/209 pins over with 247/689; Summer Young at Heart — Bill Bowcutt 83 pins over with 243; Summer Jokers Wild — David Muffoletto 102/155 pins over with 238/563.

In the uncertified leagues, Bob Ferraro (Black Oak 9-Pin No-Tap) bowled a perfect 300 game for the second week in-a-row. Other noteworthy scores included Gerry Davis’s 268, Manny Brager’s high-series of 705 and Ferraro’s 697 series.

The women saw Terry Hall roll a 256 and Sandra Martin a 235, which was 108 pins over her No-Tap average. Martin was also 164 pins over her average series with a 545.  The women’s high-series honors went to Ethel Brager with a 593.

Black Oak’s monthly Senior No-Tap will be hosted on July 12. For additional information or sign-ups, contact Black Oak at 928-9419.

Upcoming events include SIRS tournaments in Yuba City, Sonora, Reno and the Vanessa Brown Pro-Am in Modesto. Also, the men’s state championships will be held in San Diego in 2014.

Trivia answer: Eric Espinda, of New Mexico, bowled three games of 279 on June 6, which surpassed the previous games of 248 rolled by Kevin Shafer, of Eaton, Ind., and Gary Exner Jr., of Racine, Wis.
