Summerville junior Taylor Ebner had 14 strikeouts to lead the Bears to a season-opening 11-1 road win over Denair on Monday.
“Ebner was dominating on the mound,” said Bears head coach Ben Watson.
Denair only managed two hits off Ebner.
“This was the first varsity game for several of our girls, and they did a pretty solid job,” said Watson. “For a first game, it was a good performance. Our defense was good although I'd say it's pretty easy to play defense while Ebner is striking out 14 batters.”
“My outside pitch was on fire tonight,” said Ebner. “I did struggle a bit with my changeup.
“Overall, I think our team did a good job. We had some first-game jitters but we also had great energy, our excitement level was high and we had fun.”
Leading the Bears at the plate were Courtney Robinson who was 2-for-3 with a triple and Taylor Leslie who was 3-3 with a triple.
