RENO Bret Harte High School wrestler T.J. Dillashaw posted an impressive second-place finish in the Sierra Nevada Classic, an 89-school tournament covering five Western states.
Dillashaw, a junior, won four of five matches at 112 pounds, the first three by fall. He pinned Bahker Komak of Eureka in 40 seconds; Ari Goldschmidt from Southridge High of Portland, Ore., in 2:46 and Pat Dominguez of Battle Mountain, Nev., in 2:43; then took a 4-0 decision from Adin Duenas of Gilroy to make the finals.
There, he ran into Curtis Schurkamp of Escalon and was defeated, 12-4. Schurkamp is the latest in a line of championship brothers out of the fine Escalon program.
"The match was exciting and a lot closer than the final score would lead you to believe," Bret Harte assistant coach Jerry Middleton said.
Dillashaw's record now stands at 18-1.
Josh Grimes, Jordon Borean and Edwin Broglio of Bret Harte finished one match out of the medals in the prestigious tournament, in which Bullfrogs Justin Middleton, Josh Storey and Jerryd Middleton also made good showings.
Bret Harte's next action is in the Robert Hatler Memorial Tournament in Sonora on Saturday. The Bullfrogs' own Provart Tournament, normally held the last weekend in December, was canceled this year.
