EAU CLAIRE, Wis. The Tuolumne County-based California Crew must do some serious winning the next few days if it is to capture another North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) championship.
The Crew lost its opening game in the NAFA AA World Series yesterday morning, 2-0 to PBI of Minnesota, and needed to win at least once today to stay alive. This morning's opponent was the Colorado Rage, and win or lose the crew was to play either Wilbur Lime of Wisconsin or the Mitchell Mets (origin unknown) at 6 p.m.
If the Crew sponsored by Black Oak Casino and Bill McIntire's Granite Castle Services gets through, it must win four games Tuesday to make it to through the final day's play Wednesday.
The Crew won the NAFA A World Series last year further out west in Salem, Ore.
No matter what happens in the AA Series, the team will play in the AAA Series beginning Friday at 1 p.m. against the Circle Tap Lumberjacks of Wisconsin.
