With 23 combined kills, the Columbia College Claim Jumpers knocked off Central Valley Conference foe West Hills College 3-2 (25-11, 21-25, 16-25, 25-11, 15-3) Friday at Oak Pavilion.
Freshman Lauren Lane, a Bret Harte grad, paced the Claim Jumpers with 10 kills on 20/24 hitting, Miranda Storee five kills on 8/10, and Summerville grads Bella Bachtelle and Rachel Richter finished with five kills on 7/11 and three kills on 6/6, respectively.
“The Claim Jumpers started out strong and easily took the first match from West Hills,” said Columbia head coach Jennifer Osterhout. “Game one and two, I think we got a little too comfortable, did not play our game and let West Hills get the best of us.”
Summerville grad Samantha Darrin was perfect from the service line, going 20/20 with three aces. Darrin also pitched in 10 assists. Bret Harte grad Samantha Artiaga added an ace on 11/11 serving.
Storee had a team-high six kills and Bachtelle added five. Artiaga generated 12 digs and Brooke Earling had seven.
The Claim Jumpers improved their overall record to 7-7 and league record to 1-4. Columbia will host Reedley College Wednesday at 6 p.m.
“Finally, we came back into games four and five and worked hard,” Osterhout said. “Our offense came to life, we started hitting aggressively and playing smart. This team has so much potential, now all we have to do is find a consistency to our game.”
