The Columbia Claim Jumpers basketball team whipped the Gavilan Rams 73-57 on Wednesday afternoon in Gilroy.
The Claim Jumpers had five players score in double figures and canned nine treys.
“We were warriors out there today,” said Columbia freshman Matt Iles, who scored 13 points and sank two 3-pointers. “We played our hearts out.”
Claim Jumper sophomore Keith Robinson led the scoring charge with 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
Also for Columbia (4-7), Jalen Bourbon netted 14 points, including two treys, Tony Williams scored 12 points, Dillon Turnquest 11 and Markeal Stallworth six.
The 5-8 Stallworth also added a team-high 10 rebounds while Turnquest (6-7) added nine boards.
Columbia lead 39-31 at halftime.
“Markeal’s rebounds were big for us and Dillon had three dunks that were huge,” said Iles. “Their leading scorer had 19 points in the first half and just four in the second half. We locked him down and played good defense. Iāthink this game was a big stepping stone for us. Our team chemistry is really coming together — we’re starting to play more as a team.”
The Claim Jumpers will have two weeks off before hosting their annual Holiday Classic Tournament at Oak Pavilion on Dec. 28-30.
Columbia will play Lassen in the first round at 6 p.m.
The Claim Jumpers begin Central Valley Conference play on Jan. 4 at Reedley.
