Chambers near perfect; winter leagues coming to end

By RUTH ABREO

Bowler's Trivia: How many strikes must be bowled in three games to reach an 800 series? Answer at end.

Bob Chambers was marching towards a perfect game on April 9 at Black Oak Lanes.

The High Roller bowler had rolled nine strikes in-a-row and was heading to the 10th frame to go for perfection.

He rolled a strike on the first ball of the frame, but on the second, the evil 10-pin stood strong. Chambers converted the spare and finished with a 289, which was 87 pins over his average. It was also the high game for this report.

Rolling the high men’s series was Robert Porovich, of Monday Nevada, with a 760. He edged out Derek Gregory (Jokers Wild) by 10 pins.

The high score and series for women also came from the same leagues as the men.

Alicia Filiberti (High Rollers) had the high game with a 227 and Rosie Wallis (Jokers Wild) bowled the high series with a 554.

There were two 700 series recorded – Bob Chambers, of High Rollers, had a 704 and John Rago (Young at Heart) a 700.

The Gold Country Youth/Adult league is finished for the winter and the 3 Amigas (Delaney Lattin, Ruby James and Haley Padilla) won the championship. The rest of the leagues are quickly coming to conclusion.

The Custom Homes Manufacturing team of Linda Edwards, Patti Graf, Bob Edward and Tim Johnson were the second half winners in High Rollers and will face Barber Bob’s Bowlers.

In Morning Rollers, Keggers (Kathy Johnson, Nancy Hecker, George Johnson, Ed Bergwall) won the second half title and will face Mega Star Financial.

Motley Crew (Jim Shoemaker, Ada Hill, Jim Sehr, Mike Bowers) was crowned in Young at Heart and will face Ham Bones; In Senior Merrymakers, the Pin Busters (Bob Taylor, Ann New, Mel Lawrence) won and will face Custom Homes Manufacturing; In Jokers Wild (Alyssa Dedmon, Jenna Benicki, DV Gregory, Derek Gregory) defeated 4 of a Kind in a close contest for the league championship.

Trivia answer: A minimum of 25 strikes over three games must be bowled with at least two games of 267 and one of 266 as minimum scores; however, there are many other combinations of scores to reach 800.
