TWAIN HARTE Calaveras American of Angels Camp and Copperopolis was eliminated from Little League baseball's Section 6 Tournament for Majors (ages 11 and 12) last night by Morada of the Stockton area, 5-0, at Eproson Field.
Cal American, the champion of tournament host District 15, went out in two games, having lost its opener 3-0 Wednesday to River Park of Fresno (District 10).
"We were pretty much outclassed," Cal American coach Heath Lane said. "But, absolutely, it was a great season."
Lane's Giants gave Cal American its first District 15 Tournament of Champions title last month in Twain Harte, and many of the same players won the league's first district Traveling All-Star crown last week in Linden. The all-star championship earned Cal American a section berth.
Section foes simply overwhelmed Cal American with pitching, as the team was held to two hits in each of its games. Singles by Clay Ham and Travis Goldberg were the only hits allowed by Morada (District 8).
Morada did some much heavier hitting, getting a solo home run from Joe Bemaezzal and a two-run shot from David Hayselden in bouncing back from a 6-4 first-round loss Wednesday to Visalia National (District 34).
Ham pitched five innings and Cody Lane worked the sixth for Cal American.
In last night's other game, River Park edged Hanford National (District 61) 4-3.
"Those teams were just nails," said Lane, who stuck around to watch the show after his game ended. "They played defense like high school teams."
River Park moved into the semifinals tonight at 8 against Visalia. The winner of that one earns a spot in Sunday's championship round, while the loser plays tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the winner of today's 5 p.m. game between Morada and Hanford.
The tournament champion advances to Divisional play in Roseville.
