COLUMBIA RELEASES 2003-04 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

The Columbia College basketball team, under new coach Nate Rien, will open Thursday, Nov. 20, against Chabot of Hayward at Oak Pavilion.

That's one of three preseason home games on the Claim Jumpers' 2003-04 schedule, which was announced today by Athletic Director George Railey.

The others are Nov. 22 against Feather River of Quincy and Dec. 20 against Skyline of San Bruno.

The Chabot game will tip off at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than the usual Columbia starting time, and the Feather River and Skyline games at 7.

The rest of Columbia's preseason has the Claim Jumpers in the Skyline Tournament from Dec. 5 through 7, in the Modesto Tournament from Dec. 11 through 13, in the San Jose Tournament from Dec. 27 though 29, and at Santa Rosa for a single game Jan. 2.

Central Valley Conference play begins Jan. 7 at Reedley and Columbia's CVC home opener is Jan. 10 against defending champion Fresno, which finished second in the state last season.
