The Bret Harte Bullfrogs are one win away from completing a fifth consecutive undefeated Mother Lode League season after defeating the second place Summerville Bears 222-226 on Tuesday at Greenhorn Creek.
“What I like about our matches with Summerville is that we are two very good teams and they’re all good players,” said Bullfrog head coach Rich Cathcart. “But we probably have just a little more depth than anyone else in the league.”
Summerville’s Spencer Morse was the low scorer on the afternoon, a 39, which earned him medalist honors.
Alex Milward and Rodney Riner led the Bullfrog effort, each carding a 41.
With the win, the Bullfrogs locked up the regular season title, but the overall league championship will be decided at the MLL meet to be held Monday at Greenhorn Creek.
The Bullfrogs have 44 points while the Bears have 40.
The top team at the tournament will earn 20 points with second earning 16 and third earning 12.
The Bears still have a makeup contest to play vs. Amador (1-11 MLL) and could have 42 points heading into the event.
Also for Bret Harte, Nicholas Tribble shot a 46, Scott Hatfield a 46 and Jayden Saville recorded a 48.
For Summerville (10-3 MLL), Jesse Roberson shot a 45, Jordan Fish a 46 and Charlie McClung and JB Mitchell each shot a 48.
