The host Bret Harte Bullfrogs softball team destroyed Riverbank 20-5 on Monday.
Junior hurler Taylor O’Connor pitched the full five innings, struck out three and yielded two earned runs.
“Taylor did a great job of throwing strikes,” said Bullfrogs head coach Heath Lane. “She’s pounding the zone which is what we want her to do this year.”
Bullfrog freshman Elle Burton hit a grand slam. Another Bret Harte freshman Sydney Davis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and sophomore teammate CJ Cobb was 2-3 with two RBIs.
“Defensively,” said Lane, “we didn’t play like I feel we’ll need to play. Still, this game was a step in the right direction because we didn’t strike out at the plate as much as we did in the prior game.”
Also for Bret Harte, 2011 First-Team All-Area honoree Bekka Gross was 3-4.
