Briefs: Cats soccer defeated, Frogs win

The Sonora Wildcats soccer team suffered its first Valley Oak League loss of the season on Wednesday, 3-0, vs. Kimball at Dunlavy Field.
“I really like how Kimball plays, they are a really good team,” said Wildcat head coach Denyse McLaughlin. “But my girls worked really hard and we’re gonna keep gaining confidence game after game.
“Baylee Johnson, our sweeper, played fantastic. She saved a lot of plays with her speed and tenacity. Rachel Rosasco was solid on defense and Bailey Henington, Ruby Personius and Abby Runte were strong up front and had some scoring chances. Like I said, We’re gonna keep getting better and better.”
The Wildcats are now 2-1 in the VOL while Kimball moved up to 2-1. Manteca and East Union were 2-0 heading into Wednesday’s games.
Sonora next will play at Manteca on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Bullfrogs top Argo
The Bret Harte Bullfrogs girls’ soccer team defeated Argonaut 1-0 on Tuesday at Dorroh Field.
On a cool evening in Angels Camp, Bullfrog defender Lauren Redding uncorked a rocket inside the 18-yard box and found the lower-right half of the back of the net for the only score.
Bret Harte’s back line of defense stepped up to shut Argonaut down, including an indirect kick from just eight yards away from the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Stohlman recorded the shutout.
The Bullfrogs travel to Amador today. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
    JV—The Bullfrogs lost 2-1.
Freshman Taylor Ryan from 30 yards out, lobbed a shot over the Argonaut keeper to hit the back, center of the net.
Argonaut tied the score on a direct kick in the second half and then put in the go-ahead goal in the final minute.

Calaveras soccer

The Summerville Bears tied host Calaveras 1-1 on Tuesday night.
The Bears goal was scored by Evy Blue.
“It was a tough, hard-fought game,” said Bears head coach Brad Schultz. “There were points in the contest where they outplayed us and then times where we outplayed them.”
Summerville also tied Amador last week (1-1) in its Mother Lode League opener.
JV—The Redskins defeated the Bears 4-0 on Tuesday at Frank Meyer Field.
