Bret Harte volleyers pound Linden to open MLL |
The Bret Harte Bullfrogs opened Mother Lode League-play with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 25-21) victory over Linden on Tuesday in Angels Camp. “Overall, the girls played really well as a team,” said head coach Richard Juarez. “We’re not quite where we want to be yet, but we’re not far away.” Kylie Kester led the way for the Bullfrogs’ power attack, hitting 28 for 33 with 13 kills. She also had four blocks. Also pounding the volleyball for Bret Harte were Brie Preston with nine kills (hitting 25-32), Lauren Lane with seven kills (14-19) and Cassidy Davis with five kills (15-16). Setting up the big hitters was the almost-perfect Brittany Schulte who set 91 for 92 with an amazing 31 assists. “Brittany put the ball where we needed it all night and the girls pounded the heck out of it,” said Juarez. “We play a power game right now and Brittany is doing a great job putting the ball in the right spot.” Bret Harte libero Sammie Artiaga had 15 digs in 18 attempts and continues to impress her coach. “Sammie is really on her game right now,” said Juarez. “She’s playing fantastic defense in the back.” The Bullfrogs will go for two straight in the MLL on Thursday at home vs. Argonaut. First serve is at 6 p.m. |
