The Summerville Bears wrestlers took down their hosts, the Ceres Bulldogs, 48-27 Tuesday night.
The Bears won seven of eight contested matches, including five by pin.
But the match that stood out to Bears head coach Jordan DePaoli wasn’t a pin win, it was 106-pounder Colby Dibble’s 5-4 decision.
“Colby pushed the pace and kept pushing their kid,” DePaoli said. “He wrestled the pace he wanted and got their kid gassed. He ended up forcing a stalling penalty which was the deciding point. He wanted it more. It was an impressive performance.”
Bears winning by pin were 120-pounder Devin Conklin at 1:36, Zach Marquez (145) at 3:02, Jed Glazier (152) at 4:40, Humphrey Quirie (160) at 2:56 and Elisha Flores (195) at 3:42.
Summerville 138-pounder JT McCready won 6-5 and Austin McCready and Tyler Stoy each won by forfeit.
“We wrestled well with five pins, tonight we were on top of our game putting them on their backs,” DePaoli said. “Their hard work is paying off. We were in much better shape than they were.”
