Don’t worry, the Summerville Bears boys’ basketball team is not missing — but its logo will be featured on a limited run of Crystal Creamery milk cartons in the coming weeks.
The Modesto-based company is releasing the cartons to commemorate the winning teams of all six divisions in the Sac-Joaquin Section this season, including the Division IV champion Bears.
“We, at Crystal Creamery, are pleased to provide this opportunity to recognize the hard work and sacrifice put forth by each athlete, the coaches and the players’ families,” said Frank Otis, the company’s president.
Otis added, “We are proud to be a sponsor of the Sac-Joaquin Section and want to establish a local tradition with these commemorative milk cartons that will be a lasting memory for the student athletes.”
The 2012-13 Summerville Bears varsity boys’ basketball team made history by earning the school’s first-ever Blue Banner in the sport after going undefeated during Mother Lode League play and winning the MLL title for the second time in three years.
Summerville defeated Liberty Ranch in the Division IV Championship held March 2 at Sleep Train Arena, home of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings in Sacramento.
Crystal Creamery honors high school champions on its milk cartons three times each year in a variety of sports. The company says it is also providing high school in the Sac-Joaquin Section with nutritional information for athletes and exploring fundraising opportunities with interested schools.
