Banchero rolls all-spare game; Blackmore bowls highest series

By RUTH ABREO
For The Union Democrat

Kyle Myers had his bowling ball going to the right places last week.
He rolled a 227/517 (Gold Country Youth/Adult) which was the high for boys. Myers bowled 63 pins over his game average and 115 over his series average.
And, once again, it was Mo Ford claiming both the high game and series for the girls’ with 150/433.
Bowling 115 pins over average for youths was Dallas Ford who this week recorded a 421 series.
The USBC no longer gives some of the awards they used to, such as the “All Spare” award.
Just the same, it was accomplished recently by Janis Banchero who recorded a 184 game in Young at Heart.

Rolling the men’s high game was Steve Feola who scored a 267 in the Joker’s Wild league.
Feola’s league mate, Larry Blackmore bowled the men’s high series and had the only 700 series for this report — a 712.
Jeannie Philbin (Early Birds) had her ball finding the right line to the pocket.
Philbin, bowling in the Early Bird league, ended up with both the high game and series for women with a 225/612.

In the, “I can’t believe that I beat myself” category this week, we find in Gold Country Youth/Adult, Rick Swendeman was 80 pins over his average with a 212; and in Umchu Full House, Don Persson just missed the 75 pins over game average award by just one pin and was 233 pins over his series average.

Other notable scores include: Dan Isam 256/671 (Gold Country Youth Adult); Patrick Pillsbury 254/661 (Monday Nevada); Mary Feola 576 (High Rollers); Bruce Peterson 258/685 (Morning Rollers); Steve Feola 688, Marty Pierce 257/674 (Joker’s Wild); Jeff Hurley 255 (Mixed Angels).

I have received word that Gold Country USBC has been selected as a test site for PINS rather than magnets for qualifying series awards of 400, 500, 600 and 700.
If anyone earns one of these pins, let USBC Headquarters know at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
There is a limited supply.
Black Oak held its monthly Senior No-Tap with the following results— For men: Joe Rodriguez 833, Dave Hunter 817, Dave Rossi 791; for women: Jean Bertolosso 803, Ruth Benson 785 and Josie Lee 780.
Rodriguez rolled a No-tap 300 game with eight natural strikes.
Judging from the scores as seen on the standing sheets in recent weeks, it appears that there are fewer real high scores in either game or series and there has been some vocalization about inconsistent lane conditions.  This trend seems to also be reflected in the pins over average in both game and series.
Is this really a lane condition or is it the bowler?
