The High Sierra Braves moved into the semifinals of Little League baseball's District 15 Minor Division Tournament of Champions for ages 9 and 10 by posting a 6-4 victory over Linden last night at Eproson Field in Twain Harte.
The Braves, who represent the Twain Harte, Soulsbyville and Belleview school districts and are the host team for the single-elimination TOC, play the Woods Creek Muckdogs of Sonora and Columbia at 11 a.m. tomorrow for a berth in Tuesday's 6 p.m. championship game.
Today, Westside of Tuolumne and Standard plays Calaveras American of Avery, Murphys and Arnold at 4:30. The winner will play Monday at 4:30 against the winner of tomorrow's 8 a.m. game between 49er (Jamestown, Groveland, Moccasin, Don Pedro) and Amador East (Pine Grove).
The High Sierra Giants couldn't close the deal and were eliminated by the Linden A's, 7-4, at Sonora High School's Bev Barron Field.
Linden plays Westside tonight at 6 at Bev Barron for the right to meet the Woods Creek Diamondbacks in tomorrow's championship round.
The Linden-Westside winner will have to beat Woods Creek twice to take the title in the double-elimination tournament. The final round begins at 9 a.m. and a second game will follow, if necessary.
In Twain Harte, the Foothills Red Sox of Valley Springs advanced to the semifinals with a 13-1 victory over the Linden Rivercats.
Pitchers Brent Winkler, Tyler Brown and Matt Pikarsick combined to strike out five and allow three hits in four innings in a game shortened by the 10-run-lead rule.
Foothills plays Amador East of Pine Grove at 5 p.m. Saturday in a semifinal game.
Tonight's game has Westside of Tuolumne and Standard playing Amador West of Jackson at 7. Tomorrow, High Sierra takes on Calaveras American at 2 p.m. The winners will play Monday night at 7 in the semis.
The championship game is Tuesday at 6 p.m.
