New head coach Francisco Munoz and his Bret Harte Bullfrogs kicked off their soccer season this past weekend at the Brown and Gold Cup in Stagg.
The Bullfrogs opened with a big win but lost their last two.
Bret Harte drubbed Mountain House 6-0 on Friday in the first game.
David Rodriguez scored two goals and Omar Munoz, Jack Gilbert, Norman Espino and Joey Hecocks added one apiece.
On Saturday, Bret Harte lost 3-0 to Division I Tokay.
“We fought hard and tried our best, but the level of Tokay was higher than ours,” Munoz said. “Our goalie, Logan Millar, was the outstanding player of the game. He saved at least three or four goal scoring opportunities.”
In the Bullfrogs final match, the team fell 4-1 to Stagg.
“In this game, we created some clear opportunities to score, but we did not capitalize on them,” Munoz said. “We also made some defensive errors that caused us goals. But the overall attitude that the players showed was excellent. Participating in this tournament with higher level teams, helps us improve our soccer skills.”
Bret Harte will next play in the Buffalo Cup on Friday and Saturday in Manteca.
