BH girls regain league lead
The Bret Harte High School girls' basketball team bounced back in fine fashion last night with a 76-46 rout of Argonaut at the Bret Harte gym.
The Bullfrogs (16-9, 7-1 Mother Lode League) were coming off a 56-53 overtime loss to Amador. They got some good news from elsewhere in the MLL, too, as archrival Calaveras (16-8, 6-2) lost 44-43 to Amador, giving sole possession of first place back to Bret Harte with two games left.
Forward Tawnie Lee led the Bullfrogs against Argonaut (2-19, 1-7) with 15 points, and center Alyssa Cheney scored 12.
"They played a zone, and we just moved the ball well, hit the open person, and made the shots," Bret Harte coach Mike Lewis said.
Megan Shires added nine points and Marianne Madsen hit a 3-pointer in her return from an ankle injury that kept her out for five games.
The Bullfrogs play a non-league game against Highlands of North Highlands at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Angels Camp, then close out the regular season next week by playing host to Summerville (12-7, 4-4) on Tuesday and visiting Calaveras on Thursday.
