With Joe Sanders (17 points) and Cody Munsel (13 points) leading the way, the Bears (6-2) methodically marched to a 64-53 victory over Winters in the opening round of the three-day Live Oak Tournament on Thursday.
"Winters is a very good, sound ballclub that doesn't make too many mistakes," Summerville coach Marlen Ronten said. "We came out and were kind of throwing the ball away and making too many mistakes. I think we were maybe a little overconfident."
Despite the turnovers, Summerville outscored Winters each quarter and took control of the game at the free-throw line, where the Bears shot 70 percent (14-for-20) to Winters' 45 percent (9-for-20).
Quint Gerber, Daniel Atkins and Jake Heldstab added nine, eight and seven points, respectively, for Summerville. Winters' Chris Turecki led all scorers with 20 points.
Summerville will face either Live Oak or Sierra Christian of Rocklin at 8:30 tonight in the semifinals. If the Bears win, they'llplay in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday. If the Bears lose tonight, they'll play in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m.

The Bearcubs (2-2) beat Victory Christian of Carmichael 44-34 in the first round of the Central Catholic Tournament in Modesto. Crystal Edgerton had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Ciera Lovett scored 11 points.
