SUTTER CREEK — In a season full of bad luck, missed opportunities and poor execution, the Summerville High School baseball team got a little of each in yesterday's 6-5, 11-inning loss to Amador.

The Bears (2-12-1, 0-7 Mother Lode League) received quality starting pitching from Ryan Drewery, an effective long-relief stint from Travis Ford and a three-run home run from Adam Artzer, but still managed to let a 5-4 lead get away in the 11th.

"It's real disappointing," Summerville coach Donnie Wright said. "It seems like it's always something."

Summerville looked like it would capture its first MLL win of the season in the top of the 11th inning when Drewery drew a two-out walk, advanced to second when Artzer was hit by a pitch, and scored on a clutch single by Ford.

But as quickly as Ford put the Bears ahead, he allowed the Buffaloes to get back in it in the bottom of the 11th when lead-off hitter C.T. Neuvert belted a 3-1 pitch for a game-tying home run.

Summerville's defense then faltered with back-to-back errors, putting baserunners on first and second with no outs. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up to second and third, Summerville coach Donnie Wright called for an intentional walk.

With the bases loaded, one out and the winning run on third base, a chopper was hit off the plate. Summerville third baseman Dillon Ray charged in to make the play at the plate, but collided with Ford coming off the mound, forcing Ray's throw to go awry and allowing the game-winner to score.

Summerville took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third on Artzer's three-run blast, which scored Casey Kerns and Wyatt Ray.

Artzer struck again in the top of the fifth when he drove in Drewery with a base hit after Drewery walked and stole second.

From the mound, Drewery gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings of work, striking out five and walking one.

Ford relieved in the top of the sixth, holding the Buffs scoreless until the bottom of the 11th.

The Bears host Bret Harte at the Summerville diamond in Tuolumne tomorrow afternoon at 4.
