STOCKTON Angels Camp's ace fisherman, Robert Lee, staged the equivalent of a fourth-quarter comeback yesterday to win the $533,000 Bassmaster Tournament on the San Joaquin Delta.
He went into the final round of the four-day event trailing by two pounds, two ounces, then proceeded to overwhelm five other finalists with a one-day catch of 26 points for a tournament total of 86.8 pounds.
His prize: $100,000.
Lee caught a nine-pounder that was the biggest fish of the tournament, and he won by a whopping 13.7 pounds over runner-up Jimmy Mize of Ben Lomond, Ariz.
Three-day leader Robert Boler of Slidell, La., was third at 68 pounds; Joe Thomas of Milford, Ohio, was fourth at 64.2; Skeet Reese of Auburn was fifth at 61.7; and Jack Wade of Knoxville, Tenn., was sixth at 60.5.
Mize won $40,000, Boler $24,000, Milford $21,000, Reese $18,000, and Wade $16,000.
