Democrats won’t negotiate
To the Editor:
Democrats constitute a minority of voters in Tuolumne County, but often seem to be a majority of those composing letters to the editor. Some of these letters set forth reasonable arguments for Democratic Party positions; some are strictly from fantasy land.
Examples of the latter are those asserting that Republicans in the House — particularly those of the Tea Party faction — have refused to compromise with the president. But only the president has uttered the words, “We won’t negotiate.” Only Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has refused to follow regular order by appointing members to a House-Senate conference committee to resolve differences with any of the three funding bills passed by the House.
Democrats may characterize Republicans however they wish, but they cannot escape the president’s words: “We won’t negotiate.”
Politicians play blame game
To the Editor:
It is interesting watching the federal government lie or at least obfuscate (including blame the other guy) about screwing up or being equal participant in causing a problem.
Then days later read in the letters to The Union Democrat the usual cast of characters denouncing, defaming, slandering one political party and its adherents. Putting out big talk about “resolution” yet in their actions (ignoring the facts, frequently) perpetuating the problem. The “talk” doesn’t attract me into their fold. Their commentary is so predictable (and boring).
