Why don’t politicians face consequences for their actions?
To the Editor:
I feel that it is unbelievable that the politicians can shut down the government, cost us billions of dollars I am sure we don’t have and put some people out of business or ruin their vacations, because they can’t come to reasonable terms. They do continue to get paid though. I think if I performed like that, I would be looking for another job. I would be embarrassed and possible liable for those actions.
We pay the politicians a ridiculous amount of money so they can squander our tax dollars on any special interest they can make a buck off. They are not representing the people anymore, they are out for themselves. That is not what they are paid for or what they originally were designed for. They were supposed to represent the people that paid them.
We are presently $17 trillion in debt. That is almost twice as much as when Obama took office. He complained that Bush left him huge debt. When Obama was a senator, he fought against raising the debt ceiling. Now he is all for it. Can I raise my personal debt ceiling? The government pays only the debts it wants to. If I did that, I would lose everything.
The affordable care act is at the heart of the problem as I see it, (hardly affordable). I work full time and my insurance will cost me almost twice as much as it did last year. I feel that the politicians are trying to make themselves look good by giving the poor a huge break on health care and having the middle class pay for it. It is obvious to me that big money controls all the actions of the politicians. That is not what was intended. The system is corrupt, unfortunately for us taxpayers.
