Named posed for new justice center
To the Editor:
While passing by the road to the county’s new justice center, I was “just wondering” if a name had been selected for it yet. If not, how about Costalota Court?
Mother’s Day made memorable
To the Editor:
Seven years ago, I donated gift boxes to Hospice of the Sierra in my stepson’s name that contained a small audio device that could capture the voices of loved ones before they passed away. The audio devices were so well received that Hospice had graciously volunteered to add a dedication in Dennis Whitehead’s honor to their memorial garden wall. Unfortunately, we moved away shortly after the donation and never had an opportunity to follow up on it.
Over the last several months, Dennis’ mom and I have become very good friends. She has suffered some very serious health issues with dignity and grace. I thought it would be special to surprise her with the dedication of her only child from Hospice for Mother’s Day. Over time the dedication had been forgotten; however, it certainly didn’t remain that way for long. Shauna Burrow, a volunteer and bereavement coordinator, immediately went out that day and had the plaque engraved in Dennis Whitehead’s name and then sent pictures as soon as it was finished.
Shauna’s heartfelt act was so touching and is indicative of everything that Hospice represents. Dennis’s mom, Kelly Whitehead, was so touched by the pictures and it has truly made a day that would normally be difficult, something to be treasured.
A very special thank you to Shauna Burrow and Hospice of the Sierra for making this Mother’s Day so special.
