Making a difference
This was a wonderful evening with lots of touching moments shared, but unfortunately we missed a very important parent’s award. We would like to apologize to Karri Smith for this mistake, as well as share her daughter’s feelings in her own words.
Jordan Smith’s HOLLA award reads as follows: “I choose to nominate my mom, Karri Smith, because she has to take care of eight people and she does not get that much appreciation. I am very thankful to you, Mom.”
We at Friday Night Live are proud to honor parents like you. Your efforts really do make a huge difference.

The Tuolumne County Veterans Committee, VFW Post 3154 and The American Legion would like to thank everyone that generously gave their time and effort to place flags and crosses throughout our county cemeteries this Memorial Day.
The effort went smoothly and the results were outstandingly heart-warming. Special thanks also go to all of those who attended and participated in the ceremonies throughout the county. We all appreciate the support to help honor those who came before us and present who have given their lives in the name of freedom. We hope that you will come and join us again next year.

The recent Sonora Shriners Hospital Screening Clinic for children was very successful. The Mother Lode Shrine Club, as well as our patients in the Sacramento Hospital, want to thank The Union Democrat for the wonderful story and publicity in the paper.
Getting the word out to the community is very important in our mission to help more children in our local counties.
On behalf of all Shriners and patients in our 22-hospital system, we want to express our gratitude for the excellent story reporter Rebecca Howes wrote to publicize the screening clinic.
The paper’s contribution has helped to make it possible to help more local children to receive the excellent medical care provided by the Sacramento hospital without charge to patient or family.

It is most amusing to read the letters coming in blasting President Obama for the mess our country is in right now. Short memories is what you all suffer from, apparently.
President Bush left office after entrenching our country in war, strapping our country with a debt so huge it will take perhaps a lifetime to undo, giving away taxpayers’ hard-earned money to failing banks who should have been left to their own devices to recover because they were so greedy that the predatory lending they all took advantage of, turned them inside out. And even then they continued to live fat by handing out massive bonuses to a select few.
Seriously, you blame Obama? Does this mean that you same individuals will blame the next governor of the state of California for the incredible mess that Gov. Swartzie has put us in?
Lest you forget, we have the “brilliant” idea of cutting education to the point of serious hemorrhaging along with protective services such as law enforcement and now his teeth are into parks that actually generate revenue.
In an economy such as ours, when you cut education and associated programs you can pretty much expect a rise in crime and prison populations. It’s time to wake up and do something or stop complaining.
