To the editor:
Generosity is the total name for the donators and volunteers for the toy distribution at Santa’s Express, The Resource Connection.
All that happened could not be accomplished without extraordinary volunteers and donators. We had a huge amount of toy donations, demonstrating how generous Calaveras County is in time of need. Words cannot express my deep appreciation.
Thank-yous are too numerous to mention, but I do want to salute the heads of set up — Lois Johnson, Susan Tribble (my co-chair from Murphys), Doris Toth and Bill and Carolyn Edwards, who design and create the beautiful displays, and to Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus who truly provided the spirit of Christmas. The rest of you volunteers know how much I appreciate you.
Can enough thank yous be said to the young men from Rite of Passage, who helped carry distribution boxes and helped in many other ways? My volunteers want all your strong young men to return next year.
Finally, a special salute to those who donated toys: the enthusiastic group of Foothill Fire Department Auxiliary, The Terrace Plaza, California Highway Patrol of San Andreas, Foothill Community Church, Calaveras Telephone Company Employees, Calaveras County Association of Realtors, Murphy Firefighters Association, Matuca Chapter 1849 E. Clampus Vitus — plus all the rest of you individual donors. Also, the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots program.
For the Ebbetts Pass Elves — we could never do it without your beautiful creations.

Recipe for success
To the editor:
The largest land mass in Tuolumne County, is being run by a bureaucracy of transient officials, who have “no skin in the game.” They are being helped along, by a handful of do-gooders, and environmentalist organizations.
This county needs: Jobs with decent wages, a more business- and builder-friendly system of regulations, and support, protection and enhancement of one of the (if not the biggest) sources of income — tourism.
Take all of the above needs, toss ’em together, sprinkle with a good amount of common sense, and serve up on a large platter of guts. For those of you that like a more diverse dish, add a pinch of Pland, and good helpin’ of Murrison. Do not — I repeat, do not add super spices Maffei or Beranek, as they tend to make the guts mushy and unobtrusive.
If you would like a side dish, I suggest a U.S. Government Supe/Salad. Salad: Uberagua (keep leaves away from flames), sprinkled with your Beranek.
Soup: Skalski, seasoned with sprig of Buckley, topped off with Maffei flakes.
And finally, for your beverage: a carafe of Hetch Hetchy white gold, estate bottled, Domain San Francisco.
There you have it.
Will serve: entire county
Cost: much less than your average (un)controlled burn
