High-speed rail response

To the Editor:
The recent column nixing high-speed rail was right on. In a state wallowing in oil reserves, with gas prices about to plummet to $2, who needs high-speed rail, especially if it’s not going to bring all the jobs promised to us. We don’t need jobs. If we don’t get the number of jobs originally promised to us, let’s mothball the train project. We won’t settle for fewer jobs in a state luxuriating with too many jobs right now. Let’s scrap high-speed rail transportation and make V-8 engines mandatory in small cars everywhere so that we don’t have congested highways. High-speed rail, humbug. Let’s get bigger engines in smaller cars and traffic will move faster, okay.

Dream Act comments

To the Editor:
I read both comments submitted by Mark W. Leyva and Kim Malavey. I can see both your points. Mark’s point is based around the fact that people do not want to pay more taxes, but then Kim wants us to give educations to illegals so they can break the poverty cycle which requires more taxes or that legal citizens receive less of a quality education. Personally I believe we should offer a higher level of education to all, but I believe impoverished legal residents should receive a free education to attend college before an impoverished illegal should.
