Swan Family fire thank-you
To the Editor:
To Tuolumne County and the emergency response teams —
There are no words to express our appreciation for your hard work and consideration in retrieving important items out of our burning home on Dec. 22. Christmas with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids seemed almost surreal as everyone opened their undamaged, wrapped presents just as planned.
The turnout and giving offered by what seemed like everyone in Sonora and beyond wasn't totally unexpected. I've seen this community turn out time after time for anyone in trouble. Thank you, God, for bringing us here to live out our retirement years. You guys, mostly volunteers, personify the best of the best.
As people came and went in the Bonomis' (neighbors who sheltered the family during the fire) welcoming oasis, nearly all commented on the firemen's quick, thorough, organized, and well-trained actions. We would like to add our gratitude to all the accolades.
Everyone, including us, always says, “you and the cats all got out unharmed, and that's what’s most important,” and of course it is. But for us, after 60 years together, these "things" represent memories of kids, activities, hobbies, education, second, third and umpteen chances, treasured pets — well you get the picture. You keep "things" for as long as you can because you can't bear to let them go.
So, thank you for the memories. Some will be refinished, exchanged, replaced. Nevertheless, most will still be around. Thanks to you all.
