Fire victim says ‘Thank you’

To the Editor:

I’d like to thank everyone for their support when my house in Chinese Camp burned down Dec. 8. Your help was badly needed.

God bless you all!

Lucky to avoid a dangerous situation

To the Editor:

It was 11 p.m. when the movie let out, and as I exited the theater I noticed that everyone had already driven off. My car was sitting just across the way in the near-deserted lot. When I saw that a white van had backed into the space beside my car, so that our driver’s doors were just a few feet from one another, my “danger instinct” kicked in. Moreover, the van was idling and there was a man sitting behind the wheel. I contemplated boldly walking over and getting into my car, but I recalled all the times I heard that I should trust my instinct in times like this.

A short time passed as I stood, and the van continued to idle. As I was debating an alternative action, four young men exited the theater. So I stopped them, explained my trepidation and asked if they would mind walking me to my car. They were absolutely wonderful to help me out. As soon as I was safely behind the wheel with my doors locked and the young men watching, the van drove off. I have no idea if I avoided a bad encounter but I do know I have no sad story to tell. I didn’t get the names of these young men, but want them to know how I appreciated their assistance. I hope they see this.  Thank you.

In a flawed world, we need protection

To the Editor:

To the recent and future comments on Sheriff Mele.

Myself and others do believe that our Second Amendment rights are or will be in jeopardy.

I’m sure everyone agrees that the recent deaths being caused by deranged or disturbed individuals utilizing certain firearms to inflict their tragedies is a heartbreaking situation.

When these tragedies occur it’s amazing how quickly the bleeding heart liberals immediately push for drastic changes.

If the government allows implementation of massive restrictions on firearm ownership, what’s next?

It’s not a perfect world, it’s a dangerously flawed uncertain world.

This situation is not just about firearms restrictions, but moreover complete undermining of our constitutional rights.

Thankfully we are blessed to live in a community that is served by competent law enforcement. With that said, if the comments that Sheriff Mele made offend you, move to Stockton or East Oakland where they kick in the door before knocking.

You people really don’t know how lucky you are.
