Distracted driving only takes a second
To the Editor:
Below is an email based on what I sent to 10 of my family members. Given the content, I hope that others will read it and then watch a video on four people who are texting on their phones with the results that in four accidents, two were fatal with one of those accidents including a 3-year-old boy.
Hope that you are all well and enjoying the summer that is quickly going by into fall.
Although I don’t ask a lot of you, I’m hoping that you will take the time to look at a Youtube video called “From One Second to the Next,” a documentary by German filmmaker Werner Herzog.
The video is about those who have driven while looking at their cell phones which in a second, by ignoring oncoming cars or those passing, developed into killing or maiming people of all ages in car accidents. The drivers who killed or maimed others will no doubt remember what they had done for the rest of their lives.
For the first time in 25 years, I didn’t have a car but now out of need living in Sonora, I have a car. However, when I drive at times, I get worried when I see a driver with his/her head down in a car or truck on the highway, downtown, etc. For my safety and that of all the other drivers, please adhere to the “rules” to not use your technology when driving. Instead, if you need to text or call someone, pull over to the side of the street and use your phone.
This is written with much love for all of you since I want all of us to have long and wonderful lives.”
