Letters to the Editor for November 18, 2011

Unconcerned driver

To the Editor,

I would like to asked the woman who was driving a green GMC SUV on the evening of Nov. 8, how do you sleep at night? What were you thinking after you rear-ended my 18-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter? When my son pulled over to exchange information you tell him, “It’s not that bad” and got in your car and drive away without exchanging information? Clearly you had no concern for my son or young daughter in the car. You didn’t even have the decency to ask if they were okay?
So I’m thinking: 1. You have no insurance, 2. You have no respect for human welfare.
Once again, how do you sleep at night?

Wake up America

To the Editor:
This letter is in response to Beverly Lovejoy’s guest opinion in The Union Democrat on Sept. 29.
She does not understand that Americans are not stupid. We know right from wrong. It was wrong of President Obama to give that huge $535 million “loan” (?) to the Solyndra Co., which was already staging bankruptcy. It was wrong that the president gave a “loan” to another so called “green” company, owned by the brother-in-law of Nancy Pelosi. It was wrong that the president did not call for the investigation and prosecution of senators Dodd and Frank in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debacle.
Do you actually think the American people will put up with these giveaways of our tax dollars? As you might remember, Beverly, a large number of people lost their jobs as Solyndra went bankrupt. The pathetic part is that it will be paid for by taxpayer dollars.
Your effort at white washing the Obama Administration doesn’t go over with people that have endured his unworkable policies, as well as the squandering of the American People’s money. How about those expensive busses, made and equipped in Canada, and used perhaps three times?
You pose the question: “Why does the GOP want to put government into a strait-jacket?” The answer to that should be self evident to you. If there was more control over the purse strings things would be more equitable and the economy could grow.
Why should our so-called public servants be allowed to give themselves an exorbitant raise and never-ending pension, while denying cost-of-living increases to those who have no power to do other than just accept it?
    Wake up America!
