Rejection of bill shows lack of respect
To the Editor:
The Tea Party Conservatives have thrown the veterans under the bus again, and shown their contempt and complete lack of honor and morals for our veterans by rejecting in the U.S. Senate “The Comprehensive Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Retirement Pay Restoration Act.”

To the Editor:
I have been retired for at least 25 years, I was a juvenile probation officer for Santa Clara County. Your article on truancy brought back a memory that was of a sweet, nice girl that would just not go to school.
We — our department and the parents and the school tried every trick in the book. Nothing worked — Dad even took his two-week summer vacation time early to bring a chair to school and sit in front of the classroom doors that he’d escorted his daughter to.
She did get two weeks of schooling, but when he had to go back to work so he could keep his job to feed the family, she stopped going again.
Our solution — we gave her all the work permis she needed to keep up the jobs she had no trouble getting. Also, on her own, she realized she needed more math to handle the money she was earning.
Win-win for all!
